I have been writing and editing for over 30 years.
As an editor, I work on book manuscripts at every level from substantive and stylistic to copy editing and proofreading. I perform manuscript evaluations and provide coaching services to aspiring authors. I offer workshops and webinars on a variety of topics. I’ve worked on four-page newsletters and four-colour magazines, theses and dissertations, business documents and training manuals. I’ve covered too many topics to list.
Current and past editing clients include Harbour Publishing, Douglas & McIntyre, Greystone Books, Royal BC Museum, Three Rascals Press, Wonderwell (formerly LifeTree Media), Goddess Ink, SFU Publications, SFU Centre for Online and Distance Education, SFU Writing and Publishing Program, Alberta Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Supports, and numerous self-publishing authors.
As a writer, I’ve written long-form features and short news bits, op/eds and blog posts, celebrity profiles and lifestyle articles. I’ve been published in news sites, print dailies, alternative weeklies, consumer magazines, trade magazines, and newsletters. I also provide note taking services at meetings and conferences. And I am currently shopping a book manuscript around to publishers, a memoir of my experience of a concussion and personal injury lawsuit.
Current and past writing clients include many of the foregoing as well as Justice Institute of BC, BC Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Adoptive Families Association of BC, Canadian Education Centre Network, BC Institute Against Family Violence, BC Parent Support Services, Education Wife Assault, Coastal Sound Music Academy, Coastal Sound International Choral Festival, Evergreen Cultural Centre, Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and others including many magazines and newspapers.
Current and past note taking clients include Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Pacific Salmon Foundation, the federal LGBTQ2 Secretariat, Lower Fraser Fisheries Alliance, and InfoLink: The Conference Publishers. Through InfoLink I worked with dozens of clients including the Assembly of First Nations, Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, Canadian Blood Services, Association for World Tourism, Environment Canada, Department of Defence, and many more.
I have a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Nonfiction Writing from University of King’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I hold certificates in editing, publishing, and business communications from SFU Continuing Studies in Communication, and digital marketing from Alacrity Academy.
I am a member of the Creative Nonfiction Collective, Canadian Freelance Guild, and Indigenous Writers Circle, and a member emeritus of Editors Canada.
I live in Port Coquitlam, BC, with my office assistant, Tessa.
