As an author, I’ve written long-form features and short news bits, op/eds and blog posts, celebrity profiles and lifestyle articles. I’ve been published in news sites, print dailies, alternative weeklies, consumer magazines, trade magazines, and nonprofit quarterlies. I have a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Nonfiction Writing, and I’m writing a book about concussion.
As an editor, I’ve worked on four-page newsletters and four-colour magazines, book-length manuscripts and business documents, training manuals and academic courseware, theses and dissertations. I’ve edited writing about addictions, alternative health, chess, children and youth, communications, criminology, education, English literature, the environment, fine arts, indigenous rights, kinesiology, music, parenting, poverty, psychology, social services, sustainable development, women’s studies, young offenders, writing . . . and more.
I also give workshops to help emerging and self-publishing authors understand the editing process and how to find and workshop with an editor, and am happy to tailor a workshop to any audience’s needs.
As a communications consultant, I’ve worked with small community-based nonprofits and mid-sized international businesses. I’ve written and edited materials for print and digital delivery, implemented social and traditional media campaigns, and developed strategic plans to guide development of publications over a few issues, or media plans over several years.
I am a member in good standing of the Editors’ Association of Canada.
